I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Read more

Do you need a powerful vacuum to thoroughly clean your home and your pet? Then, take a look at my review of the match between the Shark Vertex vs Dyson Ball Animal 2. After putting them to the test with different kinds of dirt on different floors and comparing their technologies, it’s clear to me that the Shark Vertex is the winner.

The winner Shark Vertex AZ2002 lives up to its reputation as an effective cleaner for a wide variety of surfaces and types of dirt. The device is able to clean up everything from tiny to large debris without leaving a single crumb behind. Also, it has a bright LED headlight that lets me see any spot that needs more cleaning.

As for the Dyson Ball Animal 2, it possesses one of the highest suction powers, which explains why it has relatively little difficulty dealing with the debris of a variety of sizes. However, because it has such a strong suction, it is difficult to push on carpets. Even so, it’s still well worth a try!

Shark Vertex vs Dyson Ball Animal 2: Differences

Shark AZ2002 wins 2-1 and ties once against Dyson Ball Animal 2 thanks to its better cleaning performance, useful LED headlights, and many more details. Check out my full review and comparison to know the pros and cons of both machines.

Cleaning Performance

The Winner: Shark Vertex

Hard Floor

On bare floors, both the Shark Vertex vs Dyson Ball Animal 2 give a satisfactory cleaning performance. But the Shark Vertex does slightly better than the Dyson one.

the dyson ball animal 2 has good performance on bare floors
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has good performance on bare floors

When I’m cleaning hard floors with Dyson Ball Animal 2, I can turn the brush roll off so that it does not scratch the floor. This vacuum boasts of being the most powerful vacuum cleaner on the market today. However, the result was not what I expected. It does an excellent job of sucking up medium debris and cleans almost 100% of debris. However, weakness appears when it sucks fine debris and large debris.

In my test, when it cleaned carpet powder, it did get the top layer but there is quite a bit of carbon powder still left. It appears to have some difficulty sucking up larger debris, such as aquarium rocks or cereal. It will just push them around.

In contrast, the result is absolutely fantastic when using the Shark Vertex. If the majority of your home is made up of hard floors, you absolutely need to invest in this product. It had no trouble sucking up particles of any size, from the smallest to the largest.

Carpet Performance

When it comes to cleaning low-pile carpets, both the Shark Vertex and the Dyson Animal 2 are excellent choices. They have a powerful suction motor that enables them to efficiently remove both small and large particles from low-pile carpets.

When they suction thicker carpets or high-pile carpets, the differences become more apparent. The Dyson Animal 2‘s strong suction power can be a blessing and a curse at times. People who use this machine to vacuum carpets, especially high-pile carpets, often say that the suction is too strong and makes it hard to move forward.

Unlike its competitors, Shark Vertex doesn’t rip the carpet up or otherwise damage it in any way. People with thick, plush carpets or commercial flat carpets will appreciate this. It is also easier to push forward on the carpet than the Dyson Animal 2. As long as the vacuum is adjusted to the correct setting for the height of the floor or carpet, it is simple to maneuver.

Adjustable Suction Power

Shark Vertex has 3 levels: hard surface, low carpet and high carpet. We will manually adjust the suction power by selecting the setting that is most suitable for the type of floor that we are vacuuming. I really like that these settings are placed on the handle rather than on the body of the vacuum cleaner because it makes it much simpler to access them and switch back and forth.

The Dyson Animal Ball 2’s height adjusts itself automatically based on the surface’s density and how you’re holding the device. It is convenient, but it can get stuck on thicker or high-pile carpets. Because of this, I still prefer to manually adjust the floor nozzle on the Shark Vertex.

Filtration System And Dirt Bin

The Winner: It’s a Tie!

These two machines both have 2 sections of filters: a pre-motor filter and a post-motor filter which is a HEPA filter. From what I can see with my bare eyes, almost no dust comes out of the exhaust port when I clean, so no dust clouds form. This is the clearest demonstration of the HEPA’s performance!

When it comes to the capacity of the dust containers, the Shark Vertex comes with a 32-ounce one, while the Dyson boasts a larger 70.4-ounce bin. Because of this, it is clear that the latter can deal with a greater workload, which is one of the most significant advantages that Animal 2 provides. However, from personal experience, I can say that this also makes Dyson more difficult to move around.

Cord And Hose Length

Winner: Dyson Ball Animal 2

When it comes to this, Dyson Ball Animal 2 is better. Both the Dyson and the Shark vacuums have a cord length of 30 feet, which means that the user does not have to constantly plug and unplug the machine in order to finish cleaning a large surface. On the other hand, the Dyson Animal 2 has a hose that is 9.22 feet in length, making it significantly longer. Regarding the Shark AZ2002, the length of the hose is only 5.5 feet.

Because Animal 2 is not a lift-away vacuum, its reach is entirely dependent on the lengths of both the hose and the cord that are attached to it. This is something that is completely understandable. When it comes to the Shark AZ1002, having a shorter hose isn’t as much of an issue because it can be converted into a hand-held mode. However, despite this, my top choice would be a more flexible and long hose.

Utilities

The Winner: Shark Vertex

The Shark Vertex's LED headlights
The Shark Vertex’s LED headlights

The Shark Vertex comes equipped with LED headlights, whereas the Dyson does not have this feature. When it comes to cleaning the house, LED headlights are an incredibly helpful addition, particularly for cleaning in dimly lit areas such as basements or under furniture. These lights illuminate the floors and reveal any embedded dirt that I may have missed while cleaning, which contributes to the increased effectiveness of the cleaning.

To me, the high price of the Dyson Ball Animal 2 made it all the more surprising that it lacked LED headlights. If Animal 2 were equipped with LED headlights, its price tag would be considerably more reasonable.
